Digital Learning Plan

Digital Learning Framework Website
St. Paul's SNS DLP

Vision

To provide opportunities for pupils to learn 21st century digital citizenship skills.

Short to Medium term goals

To have 3rd & 4th classes using a book creator app, once a semester, to create a storybook on the iPads and save to Google Drive. To have 5th & 6th classes using Google Slides, once a semester, to create a presentation and save to Google Drive. This will complement the school's 3 year plan to improve numeracy and literacy by getting the children to think logically by sequencing and using literacy elements from the curriculum.

To achieve this the DLT (Digital Learning Team) will hold regular meetings to create the school's Digital Learning Framework and provide a timeframe for achievement of goals.

Points of action for April, 2019:

  • Review surveys and agree on by Digital Learning Team and then: Parents: text link. Pupils: in class on iPads. Teachers: Croke Park Hour.
  • Get outside IT provider to link Apple Education Volume Purchasing two-step verifaction to Tims or Georges' mobile allowing G Suite apps be installed on iPads through ZuluDesk.
  • Ann-Marie to review apps for iPad for various subject areas. Digital Learning Team agree on apps to be installed.
  • Time to get approval from Mary on an additional week for internet and social media safety after the 2-week Stay Safe programme.
  • Denise to enable an additional week after 2 week StaySafe programme by providing memo for teachers on how to access internet and social media safety lessons online.
  • Trial Google Suite Apps (Google Drive, Google Slides) in Denise and Georges' classes.
  • Have Google Suite for Education permission forms attached onto Enrollment Brochures for prospective parents.

                                                                                                       What is Digital Learning?
The Department of Education and Skills (the Department) used the term ICT in previous digital strategies and planning handbooks. In keeping with current international practice, the term “digital technologies” is now being used in preference to the term “ICT”. Digital learning refers to the embedding of digital technologies within learning, teaching and assessment practices in a school. The list of digital technologies is constantly evolving, and they have the potential to support a range of activities across the school (from Digital Learning Planning Guidelines).

To implement the school DLP in St. Paul’s SNS six steps need to be carried out as outlined in the Digital Learning Planning Guidelines (see Pages 9 & 10).

To get started two preliminary actions required (see Page 11):
Develop a vision and establish a team (The Digital Learning Team). The team needs to be cross-sectional, compose of teachers from different class levels and involve teachers who regularly use digital technologies and those that do not.

The DL Team can play a role in ensuring that the plan is owned by teachers, parents and students. Facilitation is essential in ensuring that the plan is successfully implemented. The DL Team can support staff by: (see Page 33)

  • Discussing the DL Plan regularly at staff meetings and/or subject department meetings at post-primary.
  • Holding formal/informal discussions with staff members.
  • Facilitating events where teachers share their digital practices, and where more confident teachers work with other teachers on a one-to-one basis and small group basis (mentoring approach).
  • Sharing ideas, resources, and/or classroom management approaches that support effective and highly effective DL practices.
  • Supporting staff to identify relevant external professional learning opportunities.

Surveys (online) will need to be carried out by staff and pupils to establish a baseline before any Digital Learning Plan is put into place. This data will be compared with data after elements of the DLP have been implemented to show achievement of targets.
